Heavy Coat*
For breeds like Newfoundlands, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Pyrenees
Brush thoroughly 1-2 times per week. Begin with slicker brush to get all hair in the same direction. Start with your coarse deshed rake, then move to the medium and then the fine. Finally, finish with a comb to catch any remaining tangles.
If dog is matted, applying de-matting powder will make it easier to brush out the mats. Thinning scissors can also be used to cut out developing mats.
When wet, brush through with a pin brush, and immediately brush with slicker when dry, otherwise matting can occur.
