For breeds like Newfoundlands, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and Great Pyrenees.

Brush thoroughly 1-2 times per week. Begin with slicker brush to get all hair in the same direction. Next use the deshed rake. Finally, finish with a comb to catch any remaining tangles. 

If dog is matted, applying de-matting powder will make it easier to brush out the mats. Thinning scissors can also be used to cut out developing mats.

When wet, brush through with a pin brush, and immediately brush with slicker when dry, otherwise matting can occur.
