For breeds like Yorkies, Longhaired Dachshunds, Havanese, and Maltese

Brush thoroughly 3 times per week using a flexible slicker brush and finish with a comb to catch any remaining tangles. Increase frequency and use line brushing technique (brush in small sections from bottom to top) if coat is longer. 

When wet, brush through with a pin brush, and immediately brush when dry, otherwise matting can occur. 

For breeds like Shih Tzu, Longhaired Dachshund, Yorkies, and Lhasa Apso.
